A multinational managed healthcare and insurance company sought to initiate a data center consolidation effort to reduce their corporate real estate footprint and OpEx costs after acquiring a specialist firm. This required closing two newly acquired data centers to avoid colocation costs, which would allow them to leverage significant savings in both technology and resourcing costs for years to come. They turned to the Asset Point software platform to accomplish just that.
The Results
Asset Point helped our client manage the consolidation program on time and under budget, helping save them over $3 million per annum by eliminating the associated data center costs.
Conducted over five months and in 25 migration events, this data center consolidation program reduced the client’s overall data center footprint, technology and resource costs while drastically increasing the technical capacity and performance of all migrated legacy platforms.

global financial services firm was looking to consolidate various data center management tools and standardize on one global platform. They chose the Asset Point DCIM solution to manage over 400 data halls, 9,000 cabinets and 90K+ assets on a global basis. Highlights include:

Inventory and Document New 200,000 Sq. Ft. Data Center
An international insurance company leveraged Asset Point’s software to implement a Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) system to support their newly constructed Data Center. Asset Point was implemented to become a repository for the technology and user information within their facilities. Asset Point was used to perform a complete inventory of the new Data Center, develop cabinet elevation diagrams and create and maintain the patching schedules.
The Results
During the initial phase Asset Point allowed the company the ability to review their current Move, Add and Change (MAC) process, and provided process recommendations to be implemented for the new Data Center. This review included the initial receipt of equipment, asset tagging, installation planning and day-two asset management (including the MAC process). Training plans and documentation were developed for their operational groups. The Asset Point Graphics link was used to automatically generate approximately 300 cabinet elevation diagrams. Today the Asset Point solution supports all of their critical facilities around the world.

Optimize Power, Cooling & Space in 50,000 Sq. Ft. Data Center
An international insurance company utilized Asset Point to optimize the power, space & cooling in a new 50,000 sq. ft. data center they were constructing. They were looking to leverage the most advanced tools and applications to deliver a minimum 5% reduction in power consumption, with a further goal of enabling proactive modeling for future IT asset change events.
The Results
Using Asset Point and leveraging 3-rd party CFD tools, our client was able to utilize hot & cold aisles more effectively during the data center move-in, while maximizing the rack and cabinet space. They exceeded their power savings goal in the first month of operation and are using Asset Point to model and predict the impact of Move, Add and Change (MAC) events.

A financial services client had a company-wide base of 25,000 assets, of which 4,000 were leased. Due to impending lease expirations, the client needed to either locate and return the leased assets, or pay a premium to buy them out. The problem, however, was that they had no idea where within the various data centers the leased assets were located.
The Results
Using Asset Point to conduct a full inventory our client was able to compare serial numbers to lease contracts, allowing them to locate all of the leased equipment. Armed with this information, the client was able to negotiate a lease buyout at a favorable rate; the estimated savings were over $500,000.

In preparation for the sale of one of its businesses, a client estimated the value of the IT assets at $10 million. Asset Point was employed to verify the physical inventory to be transferred and link Asset Point to the IT Fixed Asset Registry, determining the net book value.
The Results
Using Asset Point our client was able to inventory the complete IT estate, with over $13 million of assets identified – adding 30% to the original sale value.
As a highly regulated business entity with data center facilities across the US, the UK and APAC, we are required to inventory, verify and manage our IT assets continually. Asset Point and Asset Scan are critical to our quarterly reporting requirement – allowing us to streamline the process down from a week at each location to just two days.
